Each of Baldwinsville’s track and field teams were quite glad to see the belated arrival of spring, for it meant that serious competition was about to get underway.
In the season-opening meets Wednesday afternoon, both sets of Bees won big against Henninger, prevailing 112-28 in the boys meet and 98-34 in the girls meet.
The B’ville boys were home at Pelcher-Arcaro Stadium, where the mile featured Arden Kellner, in 5:06 flat, edge Jack Martin (5:06.1) for the top spot, right before Josh Perez took the 800-meter run in 2:09.9, with Martin again in second place. Ryan DeLola held off Kellner to win the 3,200-meter run in 11:08.0.
Perez branched out to the discus and won with a throw of 92 feet 3 inches, with Carter Smith (89’11”) in second place. Dante Giannino, with a leap of 18’11”, won the long jump over Austin Catalano (17’11”), with Griffin Lynch clearing 9 feet in the pole vault.
Brian Mahar, Jeff Mahar, Dan Walker and Connor Lunduski sped through the 4×400 relay in 3:46.51, while Walker, Brian Mahar, David Mazurkiewicz and Andrew Johanson went 46.9 seconds int the 4×100. Perez, Martin, Braden Miles and Denis Keegan went 9:42 flat in the 4×800 relay.
Jeff Mahar (53.4 seconds) and Brennan LaQue (54.9 seconds) went 1-2 in the 400-meter dash, while Evan Donhauser beat Nate Cutie in the 110 high hurdles and Kenneth Stehle, in 1:09.9, won the 400-meter hurdles.
At Sunnycrest Field, B’ville’s girls saw Rachael Miller win twice in distance events, covering 1,500 meters in five minutes, 18 seconds and claiming the 800-meter run in 2:37. Marissa Lathrop needed 14:32 for first place in the 3,000-meter run.
Hannah Wood claimed first in the 100-meter hurdles in 17.7 seconds. Kelley Hull needed 1:06.0 to get a victory in the 400-meter dash as Brittany LaRock went 29.1 seconds in the 200-meter dash. Dominique LaPointe beat the field in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:17.0 as Haleigh Jaquint went 30 feet 2 inches in the triple jump.
B’ville swept all of the relays. Mia Bolton, Emily McComb, Kirby Socker and Shylea Dukat ran the 4×800 in 11:21, while Sara Bartelli, Gabrielle Crimi, Mia Fernandez and Rebecca Lawrence combined to win the 4×100 in 58.5 seconds. Randi Bort, Shannon Lauko, Katherine Schumacher and Elise Seifritz went 4:51 in the 4×400.
