One more time, the Chittenango boys golf team traversed the links at Rogues Roost, and it turned out to count more than all the previous 2013 home matches combined.
That’s because the Bears knocked off Christian Brothers Academy 208-212 Tuesday afternoon, ending the Brothers’ remarkable streak of winning 63 consecutive matches against Onondaga High School League opponents.
And it did so with the same depth that helped the Bears also conquer CBA in last year’s Section III Class B tournament.
Senior Kyle McGinnis shot a 39 for nine holes, the best individual total by one shot over CBA’s Jack Bellardini, and got enough support from his teammates, too.
Erik Russell posted a 41, with Ryan Delaney managing to shoot 42. Kyler Christopher and Mike McIntosh, with their matching totals of 43, clinched the title, all of them overcoming rounds of 42 from CBA’s Drew Derrenbacker and William Ierlan, plus 44s from Sam Little and Steve Fournier.
A day earlier, against Phoenix at Rogues Roost, the Bears improved to 8-4 with plenty of exceptional performances as it rolled past the Firebirds 194-217.
McGinnis and Ryan Delaney each posting 37 for nine holes, and while that trailed Phoenix’s Codie Corso (36) for individual honors, McGinnis and Delaney had lots of help.
Christopher finished with a 39, while Conor Delaney had a 40 and McIntosh settled for a 41. Phoenix’s second-best player, Austin Dristle, could only manage a 43.
