Fueled by a close call with Baldwinsville on April 19, the Cicero-North Syracuse girls lacrosse roared past its next three opponents and improved its overall record to 6-3.
For the Northstars, the frustration of that narrow 10-9 defeat to B’ville was taken out at Central Square last Tuesday night, C-NS roaring out to a 12-1 halftime lead and continuing to pile up goals on the way to a 20-3 victory over the Red Hawks.
Incredibly, the Northstars reached this big total with no single player scoring more than twice. Meghan Duffy, Miriam Ghabarou, Hanna Haven, Tiffany Ryan, Kristi Thompson, Sarah Bowles and Samantha Tortora all landed on two goals.
Just behind them, Bryar Cummings, Stephanie Liberati, Caitlyn Morris, Kayla Massena and Megan Caveny chimed in with one goal apiece. Brittney Petterelli finished with two assists as Marina Africa and Elise Towers got single assists.
A tougher game loomed Thursday, against Auburn, but a monstrous first-half performance by the Northstars proved decisive as it went on to beat the Maroons 17-11.
Led by Thompson and Tortora, who would each finish with four goals, C-NS attacked at will and converted just as often against a porous Auburn defense, establishing a 13-3 margin before they reached the break.
The Maroons didn’t give up, as Gabbie Charles (five goals, one assist) and Sarah Fuller (three goals, two assists) led a late Auburn push, but the gap was just too great, and C-NS produced enough in the latter stages to maintain a comfortable lead.
Caveny and Massena both had two goals in support of Thompson and Tortora. Duffy managed a goal and three assists as Bowles, Haven, Liberati and Cummings had one goal apiece. Kenny added an assist.
C-NS concluded this 3-0 week by thumping Carthage 18-4 on Saturday afternoon. Sharp from the start, the Northstars roared out to a 12-1 halftime lead, never letting the Comets have the ball too much and continuing to pull away, even with a running clock in the second half.
Ryan led the charge, with five goals and two assists, but so did Duffy and Tortora, each of whom picked up five assists.
Kenny, with four goals and one assist, was close behind, as Haven had a three-goal hat trick, just ahead of Liberati (two goals), with Cummings, Ghabarou and Duffy earned one goal apiece.
This sets up the rematch between C-NS and Liverpool Tuesday night at LHS Stadium, the Northstars looking for a similar result to its 15-8 home win over the Warriors back on April 9, with the follow-up a Thursday visit from Fayetteville-Manlius.
