Only Auburn stood in the way of the Baldwinsville girls bowling team’s attempt to rise to the top of the CNY Counties League standings.
When the two sides squared off Thursday at Falcon Lanes, the Bees picked off the first point anyone had managed to get from the Maroons this season, but could not end Auburn’s 23-match win streak, taking a 2-1 defeat.
Annie Peterson led B’ville’s efforts. She posted a three-game total of 629, trailing only the Maroons’ Danielle Feocco, who had a 671 series, and it included a 237 high game.
Elizabeth Blume shot a 202 on her way to a 525 set, while Britni Flask finished with a 520 series and 184 high game. Auburn’s Kaylee Fallatt supported Feocco by earning a three-game total of 550.
Meanwhile, in the boys match B’ville lost a 3-0 decision to Auburn, who remained in first place in the CNYCL with a 5-1 mark by doing so.
Despite this, Tyler Watchus threatened a perfect game for the Bees, settling for a 279 on his way to a three-game total of 661, tops among individuals. Only William Clifford, with a 563 series, got close to that mark.
Auburn won by having steady production from its top four bowlers. Jordan Tabone’s 648 series was less than Watchus, but three of his teammates – E.J. Hodson (640), Jake Clark (635) and Andrew Kopec (633) – were right behind.
Now the Bees enter the holiday break, and will resume action in two weeks, on Jan. 3, when it hosts Cicero-North Syracuse at Thunderbird Lanes.
