Don Miller, 127th District Assemblyman and Republican candidate for the seat, cast his vote this morning, confident that he would retain his seat in the state legislature.
“I feel great. The campaign’s been going great,” Miller said. “Cropping government so that we can grow good jobs in New York state is the future of New York state, and that’s the direction we’re going to go to.”
Miller’s race against Democrat Al Stirpe has been a tight one; he defeated Stirpe, who held the seat for two terms, in 2010. Outside parties have funneled more than $800,000 into both campaigns.
Despite the closeness of the race, Miller said he hoped voters would know who their assemblyman would be shortly after the polls close tonight.
“My hope is we have a decision tonight, but, no matter what happens, I think we ought to count every vote,” he said. “If that takes a little time, it’ll take a little time. It did a couple of years ago. But my hope is that we won’t have to go through that again this year.”
Miller had no doubt he’d be that assemblyman.
“Voters are smart. They were smart two years ago. They’ve been smart for a long time,” he said. “They’re making very, very specific choices today. I think they’re going to make a great choice in this assembly race, and we’re ready to go.”
