People from all over Central New York lined East Fayette Street in anticipation of the annual Fourth of July parade in Manlius.
The parade was preceded by the Stickley Chair Race, which took place in front of the Manlius Swan Pond. Ten competitors took place in the race, five of which actually sat in the homemade chairs. The other five people pushed their partner down the street in an effort to win the race.
Several area fire departments took part in the parade, including the Manlius, Fayetteville, Cazenovia, Pompey Hill and DeWitt fire departments.
Organizations such as the Syracuse Scottish Pipe Band, Dance Studio CNY, UPS, Sno Top Ice Cream Parlor, Cumulus Media, Inc. and Dog Gone Inn also marched in the parade.
Members of the Manlius Swan Pond Patrol were featured in the parade, along with a large swan parade float; the group drew much applause from people watching the parade.
The chair race and parade were only two parts of the larger Fourth of July celebration throughout the entire village of Manlius. A village carnival took place from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., various contests — including a balloon toss, a three-legged race and a watermelon contest — were held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. and fireworks went off at dusk.
