The congregation at Fay Road Baptist Church will soon begin gathering to worship Wednesdays evenings instead of the usual Sunday morning time.
The change was made to better serve the church’s current congregation and the western suburbs community during the summer, Rev. David Movsovich said.
“What’s more important?” he said. “To worship as a community of believers or to maintain a tradition that, with family vacations, camping and special events on the weekends, can leave so many out? The question became, ‘How do we continue to meet and try to engage our people and others in community?’”
The experiment in ministry, which is designed to serve the current congregation and invite others in, will start Wednesday, July 11, and continue through Wednesday, Sept. 5, with services beginning at 7 p.m. Sunday morning services will resume Sept. 9.
“Jesus said when two or more are gathered together in his name, he would be there,” Movsovich said. “He didn’t say gathered together on Sunday morning.”
