Village of Marcellus Mayor John Curtin describes the Olde Home Days as a kind of “family affair.”
The weekend-long event is scheduled for this weekend, June 1 through 3, and will bring people from all over Central New York together. More than 5,000 people are expected to attend.
“It’s somewhat of a reunion of sorts,” Curtin said.
Oftentimes graduates of the Marcellus School District will hold their class reunion at the event. This year, Curtin said the Class of ’62 will celebrate its 50th anniversary and will partake in the parade.
The Marcellus Boy and Girl Scouts of America are named this year’s Grand Marshals, while Rick Reagan has been named Master of Ceremonies.
Also at the event will be music, food, crafts, rides, games and a duck race, among other activities.
Marcellus Park will host various activities Friday evening, including a jazz concert, music by New Day, rides, food and games.
Saturday is an all-day affair consisting of a pancake breakfast at the Marcellus Fire Station, music by popular band Mere Mortals, the village parade and evening fireworks. The parade is at 3 p.m., while fireworks are at 10 p.m. Mere Mortals will play in Marcellus Park from 7 to 11:30 p.m.
Sunday’s most popular event is the annual duck race, which is sponsored by the Marcellus Youth Soccer group. Attendees can “purchase” a duck for $5. The ducks will be released in Nine-Mile Creek at 4 p.m., and the winner of the race will receive $2,000. Closing ceremonies and the winners of the duck race will be announced in the upper park pavilion at 5 p.m.
Non-profit organizations and other businesses will also set up vendors along Main Street during the weekend as well.
The Olde Home Days are made possible by the support of residents, businesses and organizations alike, including W. F. Saunders & Sons, Marcellus American Legion, Chocolate Pizza Co. and many others.
Residents are looking forward to enjoying this festival, which is unique to Marcellus, Curtin said. “They’ll really enjoy themselves, I think,” he said.
