During the last week of the regular season, the Cazenovia and Chittenango girls golf teams both would see action, culminating in Wednesday’s Onondaga High School League championship tournament, held at Woodcrest Golf Club.
In the team event, the Lakers shot 452, while the Bears posted 473. Both of them finished behind CBA, who shot 387 for the top spots, 12 shots better than runner-up Jamesville-DeWitt.
Maggie Carpenter shot an 18-hole score of 106 to lead Cazenovia’s effort. She was three shots ahead of Danielle Mezec, while Maddy Ellithorpe shot 121 and Kelly Furlong had 135.
Chittenango’s Meg Arnold put up a 99, one of the day’s better individual efforts. Kelly O’Kipney (122), Carolyn Ledger (123), Megan Garrity (129) and Marcina Rogers (133) also played.
The Lakers shot 231 in last Monday’s three-way match at Tuscarora, tied with East Syracuse-Minoa (231), but behind host Marcellus, who won with 214. Mezec led Cazenovia with a 57 as the Mustangs’ Beth Abbott shot the low individual round of 47.
A day later, Cazenovia lost to J-D 152-176 at Butternut Creek. Carpenter posted a 40, three shots better than teammate Kelsi Fredericks. The Red Rams’ Hali Greenhouse led her side with a 34.
Chittenango posted a 258, far behind OHSL Liberty division leader CBA (180) and Skaneateles (208) in another three-way match. Garity led the Bears with a 54 as CBA’s Emilie Oakes, with a 39, easily claimed individual honors.
Cazenovia’s boys team shot 215 at the West End Classic at Bellevue, fourth in a seven-team field as Skaneateles won with 206. Trevor Gatzke, with a 37, tied Westhill’s Nate Meisner for low individual honors as Matt Schaffner added a 40.
In a head-to-head match, the Lakers lost, 206-219, to Skaneateles. Schaffner finished with a 41 and Gatzke posted a 42. Skaneateles teammates Jimmy Atkinson and Doug Pinckney each posted 40.
