As it pointed toward one more shot at reigning champ West Genesee in the post-season ahead, the Baldwinsville girls lacrosse team still had to take care of regular-season matters first.
Hosting Auburn last Tuesday night, the Bees had a lot of early trouble, but gradually wore the Maroons down and prevailed by a score of 16-8.
Perhaps the May 4 loss to the Wildcats on that same Pelcher-Arcaro Stadium grass left a lingering effect, because in the first half Auburn, sporting a 4-6 record, hung with B’ville, only trailing 6-4 as they went to the break.
But the Bees clicked in the latter stages, pushed there by the Monnat sisters as Maggie got three goals and two assists and Claire added two goals and three assists.
Ashley Gentile had a team-high four goals, while Sarah Klaben stepped up for her first three-goal hat trick of the season. Kennedy Frink added three assists as Erika Wilcox got the other goal.
Still at home Friday night, B’ville met Central Square and tore through a 12-1 first half, easing up the rest of the way but still comfortably beating the Red Hawks 15-5.
In that initial flurry, Gentile again had four goals, with Maggie Monnat backing up her pair of tallies by earning three assists. Klaben, Wilcox and Claire Monnat also had two-goal outings as Taylor Pastore, Amari Pollard and Morgan Schaut also converted.
On Monday night, B’ville visits Fayetteville-Manlius, and is back home Wednesday night for the regular-season finale against Section V power Brighton, who pushed defending state Class C champion CBA to overtime last Friday before taking a 14-13 defeat.
