Even as it struggled against OHSL Liberty division opponents, the Skaneateles softball team was generating offense on some occasions.
In fact, when the Lakers visited Marcellus last Tuesday afternoon, it led in the early going before the Mustangs’ bats took over, producing a 19-10 defeat.
Following a first-inning run, Skaneateles scored four times in the second inning to get a 5-0 lead, only to have Marcellus counter with four runs of its own in the bottom of the second and move ahead for good with a nine-run outburst in the third inning.
Sarah Tomlinson still managed a home run and four RBIs, while Chelsea Hamilton doubled and drove in three runs. Emily Call and Kristin Didio each had one RBI as Jackie Leslie joined Tomlinson and Call with two hits apiece. Clare Manahan led Marcellus, going four-for-four at the plate with three RBIs.
After all that offense its showed against Marcellus, the Lakers went cold Thursday in a 5-0 loss to Homer, managing just three hits, two of them by Tomlinson, off Trojans pitchers Taryn Heath and Anni Wynn.
For her part, Tomlinson struck out nine, but gave up seven hits, Homer pecking away with runs in four different innings as Katie Sinclair, with two triples and two RBIs, led the charge.
