Not only did both of Baldwinsville’s bowling teams earn a sweep over Liverpool in Thursday’s regular-season finale at Flamingo Bowl, Ryan Zbikowski got within inches of a perfect game.
Zbikowski rolled 11 consecutive strikes before leaving a single pin in his final frame, leaving him with a 299 on his way to a 715 series. Meanwhile, teammate Tyler Watchus had 10 strikes in a 289 game that was part of a 682 series.
The girls match, another 3-0 B’ville sweep, was notable for seeing Liverpool’s Mary Townley set a Section III series record with a 792 series, which included a high game of 268.
Townley had no help, though, as the Bees’ Annie Peterson, with a 618 series, and Brittni Flask, with a 601 set (219 high game), set the pace for the visitors.
Prior to this, the Bees beat the combined Syracuse city entry 3-0 last Tuesday at Erie Boulevard Lanes. Peterson shot a 586 series, with a high game of 210, while Samantha Halligan had one of her best efforts of the season, getting a three-game total of 572.
On the boys end, B’ville lost, 2-1, to Syracuse last Tuesday, though Matt Neuser shot a 706 series that included a 279 high game. Sam Sojdak had a 604 series (215 high game) as Zbikowski gained a 244 game in his 597 set.
Each of the B’ville sides are on their way to Strike-N-Spare Lanes for next Saturday’s Section III championship tournament, where top teams and individuals look to advance to the March 3-4 state tournament at Valley Bowling Center in Waverly, west of Binghamton. Action starts at 9 a.m.
