Led again by senior Paige Biviano, the Cazenovia girls indoor track and field team added to the collection by going to Onondaga Community College’s SRC Arena and claiming first place in Monday’s OHSL Liberty division championship meet.
Overall, Cazenovia earned 151 points and outlasted another Laker squad from Skaneateles, who finished second with 101 points. Homer, with 49 points, was well back in third place.
Biviano topped all OHSL and CNY Counties League competitors in two events. She breezed to victory in the 55-meter hurdles in 8.83 seconds, and followed it up by winning the long jump with a leap of 16 feet 11 ¾ inches.
In the high jump, Biviano’s league-winning clearance of 5 feet 2 inches was just one inch behind Cicero-North Syracuse’s Katie Osborne for the top spot overall, while Emily Willard cleared 4 feet 6 inches to finish third.
In the 55-meter dash, Ashley Winn got a time of 7.58 seconds, best of the night, and edged Jillian Vogl (7.74 seconds) in a 1-2 finish. They reversed the order in the 300-meter dash, where Vogl won in 42.61 seconds, again the best time in any division, and Winn (42.89 seconds) was second.
Not stopping there, Vogl teamed with Ashley Kent, Jessie Matt and Anna Schultz to prevail in the 4×200 relay in 1:56.18. Winn helped Jackie O’Sullivan, Grace Milmoe and Megan Stanford to second in the 4×400 relay in 4:29.88.
Caroline Marshall excelled for the Lakers in the longer races, as she won the 1,500-meter run in a clocking of 4:57.39, where Stanford (5:21.04) was fourth. In the 4×800 relay, Marshall, Milmoe, Margaret Wolsey and Jeannette Cudney were second in 10:16.73.
Marshall added a second in the 1,000-meter run in 3:06.83, with Wolsey fifth (3:14.67), as Cudney (10:55.72) and Rae Tobey (11:20.23) were third and fourth, respectively, in the 3,000-meter run.
Molly Woodworth, with a toss of 29 feet ½ inch, settled for fourth in the shot put, with Maureen Milmoe fourth (31 feet 4 ¾ inches) in the triple jump. Liz Pittman was fifth in the long jump and triple jump, with Annika Christensen fifth in the pole vault.
When the Cazenovia boys took its turn at SRC Arena for its version of the OHSL Liberty/Patriot meet two nights later, it tied for sixth place with 48 points. Tully, with 74 points, won a crowded race for the league title by 10 points over Westhill/Bishop Ludden.
Billy Bigsby and Dylan Muller both won events. Bigsby covered 3,200 meters in 10 minutes, 14.43 seconds, holding off Tully’s Evan Knapp (10:15.66) to prevail.
Meanwhile, Muller won a close battle with Marcellus’ Rob Coon in the pole vault, as Muller cleared 12 feet, just ahead of Coon, who was second with 11 feet 6 inches.
Muller also earned third place in the triple jump, going 38 feet 4 inches, and he teamed with Doyle Judge, Anthony Randino and Matt Donovan to finish second (1:37.89) to CBA (1:37.35) in the 4×200 relay.
Cameron Braathen threw the shot put 43 feet 5 inches, rising to second place. Ryker Smith took fourth (5 feet 2 inches) in the pole vault, with Doyle Judge sixth. Randino added a sixth (17 feet 8 inches) in the long jump and took seventh in the 300 sprint, while Donovan was sixth in the 55 sprint in 7.09 seconds.
