Over the last couple of years, the Skaneateles girls volleyball team has taken all kinds of pleasure from their ability to dominate their matches against Cazenovia.
Such a thing happened again Tuesday night, at refurbished Buckley Gym, where Skaneateles again prevailed in the battle of Laker teams in three sets.
Much like their Sept. 9 encounter, Skaneateles used strong serves and steady production on the front and back lines to take charge, winning the first set 25-17 and cruising through the second set by a 25-10 margin.
In the third set, Cazenovia, led by Dominique Lyons (13 digs) and Amber Robinson (five kills, six assists, 11 digs), dragged it out further and nearly extended the match, but Skaneateles pulled it out 27-25 to complete the sweep.
Colleen Cargile finished with 12 assists, while Sidney Lawson put up eight assists. Up front, Julianna Augustine put away nine kills and added four blocks, with Joanna Dean contributing six kills.
Malorie Olin had three kills and three aces, with Natalie Roche (three kills), Melissa Severance (three assists) and Casey VanSlyke (three digs) also making solid contributions.
Back home on Thursday night, Skaneateles breezed past Syracuse’s Institute of Technology Central 25-8, 25-9, 25-4.
Lawson had a strong night, earning 18 assists and seven aces, with Dean getting five aces and Augustine contributing six kills. Roche had five kills and three aces, with Olin gaining four kills. Casey VanSlyke had four aces and three kills.
Once the Lakers get past one more tune-up Wednesday against Bishop Ludden, it could turn attention toward a return trip to Cazenovia, this time for the Oct. 29 Onondaga High School League tournament.
