The Salt City Urban Art & Craft Market will take place this year from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, in a new location at King + King Architects, 358 W. Jefferson St.
Entering it’s third year, the Salt Market continues with it’s original mission: to showcase Central New York’s outstanding contemporary artists, designers and crafters. Established and emerging vendors will once again offer an eclectic variety of innovative wares. Attendees will find everything from clothing and jewelry to stationery, comics and original artwork.
With the help of the Near Westside Initiative, the Salt Market had found a new home this year. The event will move down the street from it’s original location to King + King Architects. When touring their immense space, right outside of Armory Square, market organizers bypassed the stunning and exceptional front office spaces and went straight for the raw loading dock and warehouse spaces.
“These areas of the building grabbed us immediately and completely lend themselves to the urban aesthetic, which we find so inspiring,” said Briana Kohlbrenner, one of the event organizers and founders.
A new venue won’t be the only thing fresh about this year’s Salt City Urban Art & Craft Market. The new space allows for more vendors, so organizers expanded the number of designers, artists, and crafters to 50. Close to 30 are repeat vendors, but 20 newcomers will share the floor with them.
“The new artists and their creations bring an exciting element to this year’s show, they are a diverse and talented group,” said Kohlbrenner.
The event has gotten rave reviews from both visitors and vendors each year. The community has passionately embraced and supported the introduction of a Central New York indie craft fair, last year’s event boasted over 1,500 attendees.
Local food will be available from Syracuse favorites Strong Hearts Cafe, Roji Tea Lounge, and Cafe Kubal. The market will also play host to local musicians, keeping the spirit of the Salt Market active and entertaining.
