Vladimiro Hart-Zavoli is anxious to increase the roll of technology in the educational process as the newest West Genesee Board of Education member.
Hart-Zavoli, 46, of 206 E. Arbordale Road, was appointed Aug. 17 to fill a vacant seat. He replaces Michael Alberts, former BOE member who resigned in July.
“I’m looking forward to playing an active role in shaping the direction education will take in our district,” Hart-Zavoli said, “to work with my colleagues to develop strategies that will protect and enhance the scope of educational opportunities for our students and teachers.
Hart-Zavoli emphasizes the words technology and collaboration, expressing that they’re going to play a “vital role” in the future, offering children an even better way to interact with others, share ideas and participate in distance learning.
“We need to move in that direction,” Hart-Zavoli said, “not to replace teachers, but as tools that can enhance curriculum and expand learning opportunities.
A data center operator for the Syracuse City School District, Hart-Zavoli has lived in Central New York for the last 14 years, and in Camillus for the last four years. The West Genesee School District’s educational reputation is one of the main reasons he and his family made the move to the Camillus area.
“We moved into the West Genesee area in large part because of the school district itself.” Hart-Zavoli said. “My wife and I were very aware of its commitment to excellence. It was the primary reason why we bought our house where we did.”
He and his wife Kathleen have two children, Jeremiah, a seventh grader at West Genesee Middle School and Olivia, a fifth grader at Onondaga Road Elementary.
“As a proud and concerned parent of two children working their way through our schools,” Hart-Zavoli said, “I am consistently exploring alternative approaches that will foster their creativity and instill a sense of community.”
