Inaugural ‘Run for Hope’ set for Sunday

HOPE for the Bereaved will host its first-ever 8K Run for Hope at 10 a.m. Sunday June 5 at Marcellus High School.

HOPE’s fundraising and marketing committees came up with the idea for a run/walk one year ago.

“We were looking for a new fundraiser, and one that would raise a lot of awareness for HOPE,” said HOPE founder and executive director Therese Schoeneck. “We’re here, we have 10 different support groups … and people will say we saved their life.”

HOPE is a not-for-profit organization headquartered in Syracuse dedicated to providing support and services for grieving children and adults. Money raised in the run/walk will help fund the core services that HOPE does not charge for such as its support groups, one-to-one counseling and telephone support.

Race participants are encouraged to bring a photo or memento of a loved one to be posted on a memory board the day of the race and later displayed in the HOPE office.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. Sunday at the high school. The fee for ages 13 and older is $20 through June 3 and $25 June 4 and 5. Children under 13 enter for free.

To register in advance, go to getentered.com.

The event will feature a certified, rigorous 8K race and a looped one to three mile remembrance walk around the school campus.
