The New York State Department of Transportation has denied two speed reduction requests in the town of Lysander.
Officials had requested two reductions along River Road (between Phoenix and Route 31) reducing the speed in both the 45-mph and 55-mph zones along the road. Instead, the NYSDOT recommended the town increase the presence of law enforcement in the area to deter speeding.
Councilor Jack Krisanda said the denial was “another example of DOT not doing their job.”
“The neighbors want [the speed reduction], we want it – going slower isn’t going to kill anyone,” he said, adding the DOT should be held morally responsible should anyone be killed along that stretch of River Road.
