Four days after sweeping through the Chittenango Invitational, the Fayetteville-Manlius cross country teams opened CNY Counties League competition by rolling past Cicero-North Syracuse.
The Hornets prevailed over the Northstars 15-49 on the girls side and 20-41 on the boys side.
CNS, who had won the girls Division II meet at Jamesville Beach, was a strong team on its own, but the Hornets still dominated as Heather Martin won the individual race in 17 minutes, 43 seconds.
Leah Monsour, in second place in 18:01, led the next pack as Jillian Fanning finished third (18:04). Katie Brislin, Christie Rutledge and Katie Sischo all hit the line in 18:05, six seconds ahead of CNS star Nicole Watterud, while Maggie Malone finished eighth in 18:18. Emily McGurrin (18:38) and Anna Pearl (18:53) also found their way to the top 10.
Although the boys race was closer and CNS’s Chris Buchanan won in 15:31, the Hornets still had too much depth.
Owen Strong, in 15:58, finished second, edging out Nick Ryan (15:59) as Mark McGurrin and Andrew Roache both hit the line in 16:04.
Andrew Veilleux was sixth in 16:06 and Ben Thomas was seventh (16:08), with Eric Billinson taking 10th place in 16:20. F-M is home again next Wednesday to take on Liverpool.
