In a busy week of competition, the Jordan-Elbridge boys lacrosse team played three times in five days, only winning once. The Eagles could not keep Christian Brothers Academy from breaking a five-game skid last Tuesday afternoon, falling to the Brothers 16-13 at Alibrandi Stadium. It went back and forth, J-E surrendering a 4-4 tie when CBA outscored them 6-1 in the second period, yet rebounding after halftime in a 7-2 third-quarter charge to tie it again, 12-12. CBA would have the last run, though, negating Jeff Guadagnolo’s season-best total of four goals and two assists. Cody Lewis scored three times, adding an assist as Gale Thorpe and Dylan Johnson each got two goals. Zach Stevenson had a goal and two assists. Morgan Town also converted. Connor Smart finished with 14 saves, but he couldn’t keep everything out as CBA got three-goal hat tricks from Nick Papayanakos, Will Roberson and Jared DePalma. On Thursday, J-E tried to derail state Class C no. 2-ranked LaFayette, and put up a respectable showing, even though it lost to the Lancers 15-10. This game was close for three quarters, as the Eagles maintained a reasonable pace and didn’t let LaFayette attack at will. J-E only trailed 9-7 through three periods, and were one spurt from a possible upset before the Lancers surged late. Thorpe, with three goals, and Lewis, with a goal and four assists, led this mighty effort as Richardson and Guadagnolo both had two goals. Aurie Schwarting and Zach Stevenson earned single goals. Logan Smart finished with 11 saves. LaFayette’s brother duo of Lyle and Miles Thompson carried their team along, as Lyle got six goals and three assists, while Miles had five goals and four assists. J-E would break its skid on Saturday, handling Onondaga 16-9 to improve its overall mark to 2-5. Already ahead 5-3, the Eagles blanked the Tigers in the second period, expanding its margin to 8-3 and answering every time OCS tried to make a late run. Guadganolo, with four goals, led a balanced attack where Thorpe had two goals and three assists and Thorpe, while Stevenson and Johnson each found the net three times and Lewis earned four assists. Richardson had two goals and one assist as Schwarting picked up one goal and one assist. Tom Delap also scored. On Tuesday, J-E visits Tully, looking for back-to-back wins before hosting Bishop Ludden Thursday night.
