For its first real action of the 2010 season, the Oneida and Vernon Verona Sherrill girls track and field teams both took part in the Tri-Valley Relays, held at Oneida’s facility.
Aside from the normal relays, individual events featured two athletes and combined times, heights and distances.
Three times, the Indians came out on top. Rachael Kline and Samantha Carinci worked in the 100-meter hurdles and got a top total time of 35.9 seconds.
Kline then joined Taylor Youngkrans as the pair won the shot put with combined throws of 56 feet 9 inches. Over in the discus, Youngkrans and Ashley Curtin threw 158 feet 4 inches for another title.
VVS did its best work on the oval, including the 4×200 relay, where Elaine Slaven, Kayla Prentice, Rachel Brown and Alyssa Durant put up a time of 1:58.1.
A different Red Devils quartet – Lauren MacDonald, Kerry Miley, Maggie Curtis and Gabbie Koons – worked to win the sprint medley relay (4:40.4). Durant and Brown returned in the triple jump, winning with total leaps of 59 feet 5 inches.
