B’ville track sweeps Henninger; boys win New Hartford meet

Now at 3-0 within the CNY Counties League National division, the Baldwinsville boys track and field team fully controlled last Wednesday’s meet against Henninger at Pelcher-Arcaro Stadium, beating the Black Knights 119-22.

Brian Kane stood out, winning both the long jump (19 feet 2 inches) and triple jump (40 feet 1 inch), while Sean Bernstein cleared 6 feet in the high jump.

Bernstein stood up well to Henninger sprint star Greg Spears, as they nearly tied in the 200-meter dash (both finished in 22.4 seconds) and Spears, in 10.9 seconds, edged Bernstein (11.0 seconds) in the 100-meter dash.

In a bit of payback, Bernstein, teamed with Rudy Sapp, Todd Mitchell and Parker Kiff, won the 4×100 relay by inches, even though both sides finished in 44.5 seconds.

Kyle McCaleb prevailed twice, claiming the 110 high hurdles in 16.7 seconds and the 400 hurdles in 1:03.6. B’ville swept the distance races as Chris Wicks won at 800 meters (2:12.3), Tim Chambers in the mile (4:52.3) and Joel Moss at 3,200 meters (10:28.1).

Jeff Pond, who won the 400-meter dash (54.1 seconds), teamed with Sam Kurey, Charles Parker and Brian Wisely to win the 4×400 relay in 3:49.4. This came after Parker and Wicks helped Shaun Thompson and Ethan Pacheck win the 4×800 relay in 8:51.9.

In field events, Matt Getman threw the discus 131 feet and Raeshaun Jones won the shot put, tossing it 39 feet. Alan Gribble cleared 8 feet 6 inches to take first place in the pole vault.

Though Henninger gained a few more points in the girls meet at Sunnycrest Park, B’ville still won a 101-40 decision over the Black Knights.

Jaime Balloni was victorious in the 400-meter dash in 1:01.4, while Cathleen Green took the long jump, going 15 feet 6 inches. Bri Pollard won the 100-meter dash in 13.2 seconds as Katilyn Colligan took the 800 (2:40.56).

Green helped the Bees’ 4×100 relay prevail in 53.8 seconds, while the Bees also won the 4×800 (12:40.6) and 4×400 (4:41.2) events. Danae Polsin ran 3,000 meters in a top time of 11:34.5.

B’ville went to a pair of weekend meets — the boys to Friday’s New Hartford Invitational at Sauquoit Valley, the girls to Saturday’s Rome Invitational at Rome Free Academy Stadium.

In a preview of this week’s showdown, the B’ville boys won the New Hartford meet, edging CNS by two points, 71 to 69.

A full 16 points came from the 3,200-meter run, where Thompson prevailed in 9:34.96 and Pacheck earned third place in 9:54 flat. Pacheck also had a second in the mile in 4:35.63.

Lots of points came through relays, including the distance medley, where Thompson, Chambers, Kurey and Nate McCabe prevailed in 10:57.98, the only quartet to break the 11-minute mark. B’ville also got third in the 4×800 (8:20.81), third in the sprint medley (3:47.58) and fourth in the 4×200 relay (1:36.75) .
