Leaving some shaky early-season play far behind them, the Jamesville-DeWitt boys lacrosse team rolled to a pair of easy wins.
When the Red Rams hosted Whitesboro last Tuesday night, it hardly could miss in the first quarter, setting the stage for an 18-6 romp over the Warriors.
Every time it attacked in the opening period, J-D seemed to convert, a flood that didn’t stop until the Rams had an 8-2 lead.
That cooled off for a while, but J-D soared again at the start of the second half, outscoring Whitesboro 6-1 in that frame to get clear.
Cam Stone set a new career mark with seven assists, adding three goals. Often, Stone’s passes went to Eric DeJohn, who scored six times and added an assist.
Jake Bratek matched Stone’s three-goal hat trick, while Colin Short got two goals and one assist. Tim Edwards, Mike Fiacco, Jeff Sicera and Mac Keehfus got single goals. Between them, goalies Gordie Gehring and Jack Rattray made 20 saves.
On Thursday, the Red Rams crushed Chittenango 19-1, really nailing things down by scoring 10 times in the second quarter alone.
Before they made early exits, DeJohn had five goals and one assist, with Short adding three goals and three assists. Stone and Joe Shepard each got two goals and two assists as Bratek (two goals, one assist) and Keehfus (one goal, two assists) helped, too. Peter Goss and Robby Wengert matched each other with one goal and one assist. Edwards and Rob Elbers had one goal apiece.
J-D would step up in competition on Saturday and give Section V Class A power Fairport a good battle before taking a 12-8 loss to the Red Raiders.
In reality, the Rams didn’t recover from a first quarter where it scored just once, allowing Fairport to move in front and stay there. Despite all kinds of thrusts, J-D saw its deficit grow to 11-6 by the end of the third period.
Stone had two goals and one assist, with Bratek also finding the net twice. DeJohn had a goal and two assists as Short, Sciera and Shepard scored, too.
The Red Rams would meet up with East Syracuse-Minoa on Tuesday before Saturday’s home date with Watertown.
