Having put so much effort into its Jan. 9 game with CBA, the Jamesville-DeWitt girls basketball team took some time to gain all of its energy back.
And in the meantime, the Red Rams would struggle, taking a road setback last Tuesday night as it lost a 60-49 decision to Fulton.
Though just 5-5 through the first half of the regular season, Fulton was ready on this night, going ahead early and keeping it as both teams managed just four points in a low-scoring second quarter.
J-D stayed close until the third quarter, when Fulton outscored them 22-14. Despite an active homestretch, the Rams could not eat into that deficit.
Alyssa Gratien set a new season mark with 18 points, but no one joined her in double figures as Jessica Kramer got eight points and Chayla Love, seeing more action in place of the injured Micha Williams, added seven points. For the Red Raiders, Alicia Vann and Ashlyn Palmitesso each had 15 points, while Kayla Trail earned 12 points.
Back home, J-D’s boys team, undefeated and atop the state rankings, hammered Fulton 88-56.
Fulton kept pace for a while, but a 20-8 second-quarter smothering doubled the margin, and the lead was 75-41 before the reserves showed up for the fourth quarter.
Brandon Triche distributed more than he shot, yet still had 16 points. Alshwan Hymes hit on four 3-pointers on his way to 24 points for the night, while DaJuan Coleman earned 12 points. Zach Chinouma (nine points) and Lamar Kearse (eight points) helped, too, as Steven Thomson and Demetrius Mitchell got six points apiece.
On Friday night, just before heading to New York City, the Red Rams will meet Fowler.
