Coming off its sweep of the titles at the Chittenango Coaches Invitational, the Fayetteville-Manlius track and field teams just kept on winning.
The Hornets witnessed some record-shattering efforts in last Wednesday’s meet at Central Square, but still beat the Red Hawks 94-47 on the boys side and 108.5-32.5 on the girls side.
In the boys meet, Central Square star James Thurn posted the season’s fastest Section III times in both the 200-meter dash (22.0 seconds) and 400-meter hurdles, the latter done in a time of 53.1 seconds. That’s close to the sectional mark of 52.21 seconds set by Whitesboro’s Jeff Reinhardt a decade ago.
Otherwise, F-M dominated again. Jamal Johnson backed up taking the 100-meter dash (11.1 seconds) by beating teammate Alex Hatz in the 400-meter dash, 52.4 seconds to 54.8.
As for Hatz, he won the 800-meter run in 2:03.5, as Paul Merriman took the mile in 4:37.9. Andy Sargrad, in a clocking of 10:03.5, held off Andrew Roache (10:04.6) and Central Square’s Tim Kayney (10:06.0) to complete the distance-racing sweep.
Merriman, Roache, Hatz and Brendan Farrell ran the 4×800 relay in 8:37.2, while Hatz also helped Jordan Foster, Miles Lawlor and Gottsch Kramer in the 4×400 (3:40.6), too. Colin Anderson, Westley Wright and Ryan Jones ran the 4×100 relay in 46 seconds flat.
Wright would also prevail in the long jump, going 20 feet 2 inches, while Karl Thomson threw the shot put 42 feet 8 inches and Jackson Ruggiero needed 39 feet 2 1/2 inches to take the triple jump.
Over in the girls meet, the distance trio of Courtney Chapman, Mackenzie Carter and Molly Malone each won once. Chapman prevailed at 1,500 meters (4:53.4), as Carter won the 800 (2:25.7) and Malone covered 3,000 meters in 10:13 flat.
Jessica Marini went from taking the 400 hurdles in 1:05 flat to unleashing a top triple jump of 31 feet. Also, she teamed with Jocelyn Richards, Colleen Mulvihill and Jordan Levy to win the 4×400 relay in 4:17.0.
Claire Luber ran to first in the 100-meter high hurdles (17.4 seconds), cleared 8 feet in the pole vault and helped Levy, Lauren Ruggiero and Alyssa Hoyt win the 4×400 relay in 53.2 seconds. Ruggiero also won the 100 in 13.0 seconds.
Alex Chapman, Katie Sischo, Meaghan Anklin and Amanda Eisenson took the 4×800 relay in 10:01.6. Kristen Mannion threw the shot put 27 feet to win that event
