The New York Dance Festival is gearing up for it’s 2008 Season and is looking for volunteers! If you like the arts, music, dance, theatre, museums, photography, or live
concerts, we’d like your interest, energy, and support at the New York Dance Festival!
Presently, the New York Dance Festival is looking for volunteers in any areas of specialty or interest. However, interest in specific areas could include:
Marketing and Communications Associates/Volunteers, Publicity Distribution/Mailing, Database Entry, Office/Clerical Volunteers, Concert Series Event Volunteers, Costume Construction and Transportation Support, Ticketing Associates, House/Theater Volunteers,
Box Office Personnel.
The New York Dance Festival is a two-week cultural festival of performing arts that takes place each summer in Auburn, Geneva, Syracuse, Rochester, Saratoga, and New York City.
It has become one of the nation’s most unique cultural expressions and brings the multicultural arts scene of New York City, and the world, to beautiful Upstate New York.
The Festival runs July 7 – 20, and includes the New York Summer Dance Intensive, the New York Drum Festival, the New York Musical Theatre Project, the Carmen De Lavallade
Awards for Dance, the Thommie Walsh Song & Dance Man Gala, Fellowships, Residencies, and a World Class Concert Series.
The precursor to today’s New York Dance Festival began at the New York Dance Studio in Auburn, in the winter of 1990. At that time, SUNY Purchase alumni Thomas Warfield and Roxanna Young had been brought to the Finger Lakes Region of New York by their classmate, Sean McLeod, to teach the classic styles of modern dance and ballet they had learned while studying at the Purchase Conservatory of Dance, 40 minutes outside of New York City. For several years, and in conjunction with the Kaleidoscope Dance Theatre, Cayuga Community College, Joy Shortell, and then College President Dr. Larry Poole, these three and other guests including Laurie Lubeck (American Ballet Theater) and Sheryl Woodmansee (Washington Ballet) taught classes twice a year in sessions called the Kaleidoscope Dance
Theatre Winter and Summer Dance Intensives until 1999 when the full name of the New York Dance Festival was embraced.
The Festival had grown in notoriety and size for providing
an ever-increasing roster of world-class faculty, collaborative opportunity, and artistic
disciplines. It is one of the only Non-Audition Festivals of its caliber that offers novice to world-class professional level dance in the USA. Call 252-4420.
