To end the long domination of Skaneateles atop the Class C ranks, the Christian Brothers Academy girls lacrosse team needed to go by its task with some patience.
Long before it could confront the Lakers, the Brothers had to open its campaign last Thursday at Sunnycrest Park, where it took apart Henninger/Nottingham in an 18-8 victory.
It was on this same field that the Brothers beat Westhill in last year’s Section III Class C semifinal. Comfortable with the setting, CBA unleashed its attack in the first half, scoring 11 times to put the Black Knights far away.
Four different players earned hat tricks, led by M.E. Lapham, who got involved in half the scoring plays for her team with six goals and three assists.
Henninger/Nottingham’s defense couldn’t concentrate on Lapham, though. Rachael Ponge and Brittany Brigandi each found the net four times, while Katie Webster earned three goals and one assist. Maura Welch added one goal and two assists.
CBA looked for two in a row Tuesday night, at Westhill, before returning home Thursday to face “Holy War” rival Bishop Ludden.
