CENTRAL NEW YORK – No one in the regular season proved capable of keeping up with the Cazenovia boys cross country season, whose 7-0 mark echoed what their girls counterparts achieved.
The Lakers wrapped up this unbeaten campaign Wednesday at the Sean Googin Sports Complex when it claimed a 21-38 victory over the Phoenix Firebirds.
Earning another individual race win, Jake Woolbert led Cazenovia. His time of 17 minutes, 13 seconds was nearly a full minute ahead of the 18:06 from teammate Eddie Comeau in the runner-up spot.
Kooper Wilmot got fourth place in 18:38 behind Phoenix’s Josh Wagner (18:20) but ahead of Gavin Painter (18:51), while Garret Lounsbury was sixth in exactly 19 minutes.
It was Henri Mongeau, finishing eighth in 19:04, that clinched Cazenovia’s win and perfect regular-season mark as Will Galton posted 19:16 and Evan Molloy finished in 19:36.
As this went on, Chittenango went head-to-head with Mexico, winning big on the girls side by a score of 20-51 by posting the eight quickest times behind the 22:11 from the Tigers’ Aubrey Herrington.
To lead the Bears, Laura Powers, Sophia DiGennaro, Mariah Stewart and Natalie DiGennaro all ran together, finishing in 23:20. Emily Judd posted 23:37 to edge Ava McLean (23:38) as Julie Voelk (26:06) and Margaret Bielicki (26:52) followed.
Meanwhle, Chittenango’s boys lost 15-51 to Mexico, whose top-six sweep was led by equal times of 17:39 from Everett Bryant and Ethan Becker. Ethan Lavier’s 19:44 led the Bears as Manu Tipa finished in 19:59 and Jacob Neupert posted 20:09.
