Concert to raise funds for InterFaith Works Refugee Resettlement Program
At 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 23, the Syracuse University Brass Ensemble will play its annual Pops Concert at the United Church of Fayetteville, 310 E. Genesee St., Fayetteville.
Proceeds from the concert will go towards the Refugee Resettlement Program of InterFaith Works (IFW). The United Church was the first congregation to officially partner with InterFaith Works with its Faith Partner Program.
Recently moving into a new home at 1010 James St., IFW continues its 41-year-old mission to affirm the dignity of each person and every faith community through education, service and dialogue, and works to create relationships and understanding among all. Its new home provides the agency with more centralized space to better coordinate and continue its work in four areas: The Center for New Americans, the Center for Dialogue, its Senior Services Program and its Spiritual Care Center. Under Director, Dr. James T. Spencer, the SU Brass will play: “NFL Gridiron Music,” “Disney on Parade,” “Humming Chorus,” “Turnadot Third Act,” Hollywood movie music such as “Thor Dark World,” “Ghostbusters,” “Phantom Menace (Flag Parade)” and other popular tunes.
The SU Brass Ensemble, created in 1988, is a permanent-in-residence band sponsored by the College of Arts and Sciences. Members include SU students, faculty and staff, doctors from SUNY Upstate Medical and other residents of the Central New York area. The ensemble performs about 16 concerts a year, including “Holidays at Hendricks,” broadcast on WCNY and its affiliates. It plays at commencement, has recorded CDs and DVDs and has twice placed first nationally in the North American Brass Band Association (NABBA). (subrass.syr.edu/)
