CAZENOVIA — Cazenovia Children’s House (CCH) will present a virtual version of its 17th Annual Chilly Chili 5K Run/Walk from April 24 through May 1.
CCH is an early learning and childcare center that serves families in the greater Cazenovia area.
Licensed by the New York State Office of Child and Family Services, the non-profit organization offers developmentally appropriate childcare and pre-school programs that promote social, emotional, physical, language and cognitive learning and development.
The annual Chilly Chili race, which is typically held in-person each January, is the organization’s biggest fundraiser.
Following the race, participants and guests are usually invited to gather at the Cazenovia College Athletic Center for a Chili Cook-Off Party featuring live music, festive beverages, awards, and chili from a number of vendors.
In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Chilly Chili committee decided to present a virtual race this year.
“We work hard each day to make sure our families and staff stay as safe as possible, and we would never want to put anyone’s health at risk,” said CCH Executive Director Sierra Neil. “The virtual race allows people to feel safe and comfortable while running from wherever they choose. This also gives runners who may have hesitated to attend in years past, due to the drive/travel, the chance to support us from afar . . . The weather will be perfect to get out and get some fresh air while supporting a good cause. People can choose to run with a friend they feel comfortable with or solo and just enjoy the quiet time. We would love to have runners come to Cazenovia to run the traditional loop and then support one of our great sponsors from years past, but that is not the only course option this year.”
The cost of the race is currently $25; the price will increase after April 9.
After completing the 5K, runners can submit their times online.
All registered participants will receive a special edition Chilly Chili t-shirt.
“The race is so important to the Children’s House that we are pleased to be able to once again put it on with accommodations to our current environment,” Neil said. “We appreciate everyone’s support in this tough year and look forward to seeing everyone in person next year.”
