Did you know that one in three Americans has prediabetes? Prediabetes is an increase in blood sugar above the normal range that can lead to the development of Type 2 diabetes within three years.
The National Diabetes Prevention Program, or Prevent T2 lifestyle program, offered by The Rural Health Council of Madison County, is offering a program from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 8, at the CRIS office in Cazenovia. There is no cost to participants.
The Diabetes Prevention Program/Prevent T2 is an evidence based program which meets in a group led by a trained Lifestyle Coach. You will learn the skills you need to make lasting changes. These include losing a modest amount of weight, being more physically active, and managing stress.
Participants will learn techniques to eat healthy, add physical activity to life, stay motivated and solve problems that can get in the way of healthy changes. The group meets once a week for 16 weeks, then once a month for six months to maintain healthy lifestyle changes.
Past participants have achieved their goals of losing 5 to 7 percent of their body weight and increasing their physical activity. Many have reported an increase in confidence about their ability to make healthy choices all while enjoying the support of a small group working towards the same goals.
