Brewerton — Introduce your child to the orchestra and the instrument families within when musicians from Symphoria visit the Brewerton and North Syracuse branches of the Northern Onondaga Public Library (NOPL).
Dana Huyge and Jessica Tumajyan will be at NOPL @ Brewerton at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, to teach children about the string family of instruments with a viola duo. At 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, Michael Bull and Ernie Muzquiz will be at NOPL @ North Syracuse to perform a marimba duo and teach kids about the percussion family.
The musicians will share stories about their instruments and talk about what it is like to play in an orchestra. Kids will be able to listen to the musicians play, ask them questions and maybe even “pet” an instrument!
The “Meet the Orchestra at your Library” series includes 19 visits by Symphoria to libraries throughout the county beginning in late December and continuing throughout January. Children in kindergarten through fourth grade who attend any one of the events will receive a passport to meet musicians from the additional three instrument families. Show this passport to receive priority seating — and a prize for attending — at Symphoria’s Meet the Orchestra performance at Inspiration Hall, located at 709 James St., Syracuse, on Saturday, Feb. 6. Admission is free for children, $15 for adults.
