Movie review: Holiday movies to look forward to

The holiday season is second only to the blockbuster summer season as box office gold. Some of the hottest movies of the year will make it onto the big screen over the next eight weeks. Here are a few to look forward to:

Spectre (Nov. 6) – The latest installment in the James Bond franchise once again stars Daniel Craig as the superspy. With Christoph Waltz in the cast, you know this one is going to be just plain fun.

The Hunger Games – Mockingjay Part 2 (Nov. 20) – The final chapter in this hugely popular series features the final showdown between Katniss and Peeta against President Snow and the Capital. Bets, anyone?

Victor Frankenstein (Nov. 25) – Yep, another holiday classic comes back to life. This one features Daniel Radcliffe and James McAvoy in the classic man-plays-god tale that coined the phrase “parts is parts” (okay, not really, but it did sound good at the time).

In the Heart of the Sea (Dec. 4) – Thor fights Moby Dick in this man-battles-nature tale that takes place on the high seas. Chris Hemsworth stars and Ron Howard directs.

Star Wars – The Force Awakens (Dec. 18) – Every other movie might as well just stay home that day. If you haven’t heard yet that this movie has been coming, you’ve been living on a desert island for the last two years.

My reviews of these and other upcoming releases will be coming soon. Dim the lights, pass the popcorn, I’ll see you at the movies!
