Camp Evergreen is closing out its season on a high note with its 90th Celebration Camp Carnival taking place tonight, Aug. 16.
The milestone-marking event will run from 6 to 8:30 this evening at the campgrounds located at 4795 Sweet Road in Manlius, and no registration is required. It’s set to include an end-of-the-season awards presentation as well as fun and games for the whole family so people can see the camp’s programs in action.
The day camp operated by the YMCA of Central New York has taken in multiple generations over its 90 years. Its programs include horseback riding, swimming, boating, fishing, rock wall climbing, and archery.
Jesse Kanaple, the associate executive director of youth development for the East Area YMCA, said Camp Evergreen has been “the place to be” for kids during their summertime break from school.
“It’s really been a staple of the Fayetteville-Manlius community for its whole entire existence,” Kanaple said. He said the event tonight will be a chance to reconnect with camp alumni and show current families “that magic of camp.”
The day camp on Evergreen Lake began its regular season on June 26 this year and will be concluding it on Aug. 18.
