Van Buren announces spring parks programs

BALDWINSVILLE — The town of Van Buren will soon be registering for the Summer Playground program. The day camp will run from Monday, June 27, through Friday, Aug. 5, both at Van Buren Park and Reynolds Elementary School. A two-week extension will also be available at Van Buren Park from Aug. 8 to 19. Complete information and pricing are available online at townofvanburen.com. Registration began Monday, April 11.

Boater Safety Course

The Town of Van Buren will be holding a Boater Safety course on Saturday, April 30, and Saturday, May 21, from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Van Buren Town Hall. This is a comprehensive, one-day, boating safety class that provides an opportunity to learn from the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. The course satisfies the pleasure boat training requirements for all states.

Certified instructors of the Coast Guard Auxiliary will provide professional instruction and answers to your boating questions.

The number of students in each class is limited. Advance registration is required. Upon successful completion certificates will be available at the end of class, no waiting, mailing, or extra fees. Successful participants will be offered an opportunity for advanced boat operation training. The cost is $35 per person.

Canvas Art

Unleash your little Picassos! The town of Van Buren will be offering a canvas art class for kids 5 and older. The class will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursdays starting April 7 at Van Buren lodge.

It’s the perfect opportunity for you to create a unique work of canvas art! There is no experience needed — just your enthusiasm, as our instructor will walk you through the creation. All the supplies are provided; participants will paint one canvas. The cost of the class is $12 per child for each class.

Beginner Dog Obedience

This class will cover basic obedience training, so handlers can have fun with their dogs. Includes heel, stand, come, sit-stay and down-stay. Classes will run Mondays, April 25 through May 30, at the Van Buren Park Lodge. The cost of the class is $70 per dog.

Van Buren Park Pool

The Town of Van Buren anticipates the opening day of the pool to be Saturday, June 18. We are still looking for lifeguards to make this happen. Anyone already certified can contact the park office for an application. The town will also help those looking to get certified; partial reimbursement is possible for those who work the entire summer. Starting pay is $16.50 per hour.

Van Buren Park is located at 7350 Canton St. To register for programs, please visit townofvanburen.com or call the park office at 315-638-4727.
