MATTYDALE – For Baldwinsville girls bowler Lizzy Hildreth it was quite a way to start the 2024-25 season.
In the first game of the Bees’ first match of the winter last Tuesday at Strike-N-Spare Lanes, Hildreth delivered on 10 strikes and posted a 266.
Following up with a 166 in the second, Hildreth recovered with a 222 third game for a 654 series, pacing B’ville to a 7-0 romp over East Syracuse Minoa.
Close behind was Sam Hass, who like Hildreth was on the Bees’ 2022-23 state Division I championship team. Hass shot 176 to open, but improved as the match went along with 207 and 226 to record a three-game total of 609.
Morgan Diecuch shot a second-game 201 in her 454 series, while Ashlee LaVeck had a 382 set. Ruth Birmingham shot a 438 series and Ashley Baker a 424 series to pace ESM.
At the same time B’ville’s boys team won 5-2 over the Spartans as Zenon Gasiorowski began his season with a 255 game, then added 245 and 203 to register a strong 703 series.
Wes Lell topped 200 in all games of his 660 set shooting 235, 219 and 206. Scott Ritcey stood out, too, starting with a 245 to go with a 210 and 195 in his 650 series.
Jordan Sevigny put up games of 212 and 208 in his 589 series and was just ahead of the 583 series from Caleb Hawthorne which included a 213 opening game before 182 and 188.
All of this helped overcome ESM having five bowlers shoot series of 606 or better led by Zach Kassel, who had a 10-strike 279 in the middle of his 693 series.
B’ville’s teams are at home all of this week for matches against Fulton, Central Square and Oswego.
