ONONDAGA COUNTY – With the Section III playoffs approaching three different area high school boys soccer teams had secure spots in three different state rankings and two of them would meet each other twice in the final two weeks of the regular season.
East Syracuse Minoa, at no. 7 in Class AA, would battle Jamesville-DeWitt, who sat at no. 17 in Class A, last Monday night at Spartan Stadium, with the rematch to take place 10 days later.
Part one went to ESM by a 3-0 margin, the byproduct of a balanced attack that kept the Red Rams of guard and produced a 2-0 advantage by halftime.
Jackson Tedesco, with a goal and assist, led the way. Joevany Alvarez and Josh Glanton also found the net, with Joel Alvraez contributing an assist. None of J-D’s six shots got past Spartans goalie Mike Godleski, with Griffin Bourcy recording eight saves for the Rams.
They both played again on Tuesday and both won, ESM handling Central Square 4-0 in a game far more lopsided than the 3-2 game it pulled out when these teams first met in September.
Content to distribute, Joel Alvarez sparked the Spartans to a 3-0 halftime lead and ultimately earned two assists, his passes going to Tedesco and Ahmed Mujezenovic, who both scored twice. Jett Winans also got an assist.
By that same margin that same night J-D won over Auburn, only it was a 5-1 decision that featured Emile Antoine, who burned the Maroons for three goals to earn a hat trick and added an assist.
This helped the Red Rams to a 3-1 halftime lead and a late getaway as Bezkod Abdusattorov and Owen Bourcy also put in goals, Abdusattorov adding an assist.
However, J-D was beaten Thursday by Central Square 2-1 in overtime, unable to hold on to the 1-0 lead it got in the first half on Aydin Ipek’s goal assisted by Logan Ransier. Demetrius Blake and Will Card scored for the Redhawks.
This took place as ESM roared past PSLA-Fowler 7-1, Tedesco earning most of his hat trick in a second half of five unanswered goals as Joel Alvarez got three assists to go with his pair of goals, with Joevany and Cooper Alvarez also converting and assists going to Arnes Osmanovic and Husein Halilovic.
Another successful week for the Spartans concluded with a 7-0 romp over Auburn Saturday afternoon, featuring the six hat trick of Joel Alvarez’s season.
Those three goals ran Joel’s season total to 29, Joevany Alvarez adding a goal and assist. Tedesco continued his late-season surge with a goal and two assists, with Osmanovic also getting a goal and assist.
