ONONDAGA COUNTY – With its league schedule complete each of the Baldwinsville cross country teams would spend much of the rest of October practicing and competing in large-scale meets, with the lone exception the Oct. 23 Salt City Athletic Conference championships at East Syracuse Minoa.
One of those big meets was last Saturday’s Burnt Hills Invitational at Saratoga Park, where in the girls varsity race Kamryn Barton had a strong showing.
In a time of 19 minutes 5.5 seconds Barton made it all the way to 20th place in a field of more than 350 runners and helped the Bees finish seventh on the team side, Barton taking 14th among team runners.
Madelyn Donhauser finished 20th in the team event (27th overall) in 19:16.6, one spot ahead of Ella DeFio’s 19:17 flat. Yolanda Wei posted 19:21.6.
Moving to the boys race at Burnt Hills, the Bees were 23rd in the team standings, led by Wyatt Decker, who broke the 17-minute mark by posting 16:59.7 as Angelo Sawyers (17:02.2) was close behind. Logan Bolton and London Premo both finished in 17:19.7.
Back on Tuesday, B’ville had a non-league meet with Jamesville-DeWitt, where the girls Bees, even with Kamryn Barton and other top performers not competing, were able to put together a 26-32 victory over the Red Rams.
Rachel Becker led the Bees, third in 21:14 behind the J-D duo of Rebecca Mendez Squier (20:38) and Emma Rukavena (20:44). Emily Buchanan was fourth in 22:11, Adelyn Ameigh-Coggan getting fifth in 22:35 and Erin Seitzer sixth in 23:08. Holly VanAntwerp (23:47) and Jacquelyn Gangemi (24:21) also had top-10 finishes.
B’ville’s top boys runners rested and it lost 24-31 to the Red Rams.
Sawyers led the Bees, finishing second in 17:34 to the winning 17:16 from J-D’s Ryan Carter. Tucker Jordan was fourth in 18:18, with Andrew Hawkinson (19:03) just ahead of Aidan Johnson (19:13) and Trevor Salzman (19:19).
