BREWERTON – Three elite cross country programs were together on a steamy Wednesday afternoon as Baldwinsville, Fayetteville-Manlius and Cicero-North Syracuse all gathered at Oneida Shores to finish their respective Salt City Athletic Conference Metro division regular-season slates.
On the boys side, the Bees were triumphant in both races, topping the Hornets 22-39 and the Northstars 17-44 despite the individual victory by the Hornets’ Nolan McGinn, who sped to a time of 16 minutes, 18.7 seconds after he posted the fastest three-mile time at the vast McQuaid Invitational in Rochester four days earlier.
Noah Covert led B’ville’s charge, getting to second place in 16:57.7, while Ryan Wilson was third in 17:14.4 and Adam Kozman was fourth in 17:22.9. Paul Clark finished sixth in 17:48.4 as Doug Clark (18:06.4) and Wyatt Decker (18:13.9) were also in the top 10.
Leading the next group, Will Cornell took 12th place in 18:17.7, with Logan Bolton posting 18:26.2 as Jacob Guelli (19:09.3), Angelo Sawyers (19:13.3) and Declan Downes (19:25.9) were close behind.
Meanwhile, in the girls race it was B’ville falling 15-45 to F-M and taking a 23-32 defeat to C-NS. Kamryn Barton’s time of 20:51 was the only one in the individual top 10 as F-M’s Camille Ryan pulled away to win in 19:35.7.
Yolanda Wei, in 22:19.3, was just ahead of Ella DeFio’s 22:19.5 as Sophia Cavalieri finished in 22:55.3. Makayla Fowler had a clocking of 23:04.1 as Rachel Becker (23:11.7) beat out Brianna Grosso (23:23.4) and Mariah LeGrow (23:25.9).
Each of the B’ville sides will compete this Saturday at the Burnt Hills Invitational near Albany, leaving on Friday afternoon for that meet.
