Up until last week, no opponent of the Baldwinsville field hockey team had proven able of getting away from the Bees in any capacity, even the likes of Cicero-North Syracuse.
That changed, though, during last Monday’s trip to Rome Free Academy, where B’ville found itself constantly under pressure and ultimately overwhelmed in a 3-0 defeat to the Black Knights.
RFA had started 8-0 before falling to C-NS 2-0 on Sept. 22. Miffed at that result, the Black Knights took it out on the Bees, gradually getting away with a goal in each of the last three quarters.
Chloe Butler did make 15 saves, but RFA’s Fiona McMahon twice converted and assisted on RFA’s other goal, by Alexa Thompson, with Cara Meccca and Isibeal McMahon also getting assists.
This made Thursday’s game at Liverpool a big one. The Bees lost 2-1 to the Warrirors less than two weeks earlier at Pelcher-Arcaro Stadium.
Here, B’ville would double that total from the first meeting, with a goal in each half as Ava Hettler and Callie Smith converted, with assists credited to Abigail Mantione and Mya Huntington.
However, the Warriors’ fast, relentless push led to one goal per quarter and defeated B’ville 4-2, Gianna Carbone scoring twice and single goals going to Mia Berthoff and Alexis McGregor that overcame Butler’s eight saves.
With these defeats, B’ville fell to 4-6, but when it headed to the Buffalo area to Face Williamsville Norrth on Saturday afternoon, it turned things around on both ends, defeating the Spartans 2-0.
Single goals in the second and fourth quarters proved enough, Mantione and Huntington managing to find the net as the Bees’ defense held Williamsville North to just three shots.
The Bees were back home on Monday to face Fayetteville-Manlius before a Wednesday trip to Holland Patent.
