CENTRAL NEW YORK – Proving themselves as SCAC Empire division contenders, cross country teams from Jamesville-DeWitt swept Oswego on Wednesday afternoon.
In the J-D girls team’s 24-33 victory over Oswego, it was Meghana Reddy earning individual honors, her time of 22 minutes, six seconds clearing the 22:22 from the Buccaneers’ Kaitlyn Donoghue.
Rebecca Mendez Squier finished third in 23:01, while Neve Gordon was fifth in 23:56. Norah Kirch was seventh in 24:36 and Abigail Adams (24:47) took eighth as Gretchen Kirch (26:07) was also in the top 10.
A close boys race had J-D get past Oswego 24-31, largely because it swept the four spots behind the winning 17:25 put up by the Bucs’ Daniel Dunn.
Hudson Groat, second in 17:41, led the Rams’ pack, with Ryan Carter, third in 18:12, edging the 18:15 from Peter drew as Paul Fischi was fifth in 18:45 and Joseph Lore (19′:47) rounded out J-D’scoring column.
As for Fayetteville-Manlius, it again was impressive against Liverpool on the girls side, prevailing 17-45 as the boys Hornets lost to the Warriors 24-37, but both sides swept Henninger 15-50.
Izzie Sullivan won the girls race in 18:58.3, just ahead of the 19:03.8 from Delilah Pandori-Howell. Camille Ryan’s third-place 19:29.6 beat the 19:38.7 from Liverpool’s Taylor Page as Jordan Giannetti, in 20:09.2, led a pack that included Maria Khalifeh (20:20.5) and Claire McDonald (20:24.9).
F-M’s boys lost 24-37 to Liverpool, but it still featured Nolan McGinn as the fastest runner of the afternoon, his 16:32.8 easily ahead of the 16:45.6 from the Warriors’ Brady Ruediger.
Will Ditre was third in 16:46.9, but Liverpool, showcasing its depth, claimed the next seven finishing spots, its group led by Roman Murray’s fourth-place 17:08.1.
East Syracuse Minoa, fresh off hosting its own invitational meet on Sept. 18, met Nottingham and Syracuse West, sweeping both girls races by equal 18-45 margins but settling for a split on the boys side.
To lead the girls Spartans, Jaelyn Jordan finished in 22:50, while Rachael Burt was second in 23:35. Danika Besig posted 24:56 ahead of Emily Clonan (25:09), Ainsley McKenna (25:36), Kate Callahan (27:42) and Alana Tuberville, who posted 27:48.
As to the boys race, ESM beat Syracuse West 23-34, but fell 26-29 to Nottingham who was led by the duo of Henry Zhe-Heimerman (18:15) and Coen Fierke (18:16), who were a full minute ahead of the field.
Brandon Cerlanek posted 19:26 to lead ESM, with Joe Pedroso-Garcia (19:32) and Ari Oviedo (19:37) close behind. Two other Bulldogs beat the 20:20 from Tom Gallery and 20:22 from Elijah Evelyn.
Christian Brothers Academy split its meet with Chittenango, defeating the Bears 25-31 on the boys side with a top-three individual sweep as Kyle Gaffney’s 17:51 was more than a minute and a half ahead of Joe McMahon’s second-place 19:25. James Cass got third in 19;44 and Dan Abbe finished in 20:32.
Manlius Pebble Hill nearly upended Tully last Wednesday, the 27-30 boys race including Jacob Tang (18:06), Jon Howard (19:25), Tim He (19:26) and Max Breuer (19:52) in the third through sixth spots.
Bishop Grimes raced against Cato-Meridian and saw Edy Livingston win that individual race in 20:26, while Cobras teammate Ella Reilly was third in 21:40.
