ONONDAGA COUNTY – Knowing that elite-level competition will soon be at hand, it was important for the Baldwinsville girls gymnastics team to snare some early-season victories.
That’s what the Bees did last Thursday night in its opening meet against Central Square, with Miley Basilio leading the way during a 125.3-113.1 victory over the Redhawks.
Basilio had an all-around score of 34.0 to pace the individuals, winning the floor exercise with a routine of 9.0 and the uneven bars with an 8.4. She also scored 8.4 on balance beam to go with an 8.2 on the vault.
Ava Wazen, with an all-around total of 30.6, edged Cassie Fletcher (30.2) for second place, but it was Wazen prevailing on the vault with 8.3 as Hayley Robinson and Brittney Hackett both scored 8.0.
On the floor, Hackett scored 7.9, with Elizabeth Peck netting 6.9 on uneven bars. Central Square’s Lizzy Zacholl was victorious on the beam with an 8.8 routine. B
