LIVERPOOL – In a couple of years, swimmers at Cicero-North Syracuse will finally have a home facility on its high school campus.
For now, though, the girls Northstars travel to Nottingham High School for those “home” meets, including Tuesday night’s showdown with its rivals from Liverpool.
Already, the Warriors had a victory over a main rival in the books, having welcomed Baldwinsville for last Wednesday night’s season opener and leaning heavily on its depth to defeat the Bees 102-79.
Undefeated against SCAC Metro division foes during a 7-1 campaign last fall, Liverpool was led on this night by Sarah Colwell, who had a part in four winning races.
Colwell got going when she swam the 200-yard freestyle in two minutes, 12.97 seconds, easily ahead of Addy Grosso (2:21.57), and would also prevail in the 500 freestyle in 6:03.01, beating her rivals by more than 16 seconds.
In the 200 freestyle relay, Colwell, paired with Kaitlyn Thompson, Arianna Kuznia and Isabelle Ackley, won in 1:48.45 to B’ville’s 1:50.52, while in the 400 freestyle relay that same quartet finished first in 4:13.89.
On her own, Kuznia would win the 100 backstroke in 1:07.98 to Grosso’s 1:11.97, while in the 50 freestyle Thompson prevailed in 26.39 seconds, with Kuznia (26.72) second. Molly Murphy picked up 224.85 points in diving.
Akley got second in the 200 individual medley, while Kaitlyn Thompson was second in the 100 freestyle and Natalie Thompson second in the 100 breaststroke.
B’ville was led by its senior star Eva Smith, who tore to victory in the 200 IM in 2:15.42 ahead of Akley and, in the 100 freestyle, went 55.55 seconds ahead of Kaitlyn Thompson’s 58.62.
