CENTRAL NEW YORK – With the regular season winding down, area high school girls lacrosse teams are in full preparation mode for the upcoming Section III playoffs.
Favored to win Class C, Jamesville-DeWitt did little to discourage that thought when it went to Central Square last Monday and put down the Redhawks 20-7.
It was only 7-3 at halftime, but the Red Rams’ attack picked up as the night went on, ultimately having seven different players find the net more than once as Caroline Stone, with two goals and four assists, led the way.
Brooke Bort scored four times and Merris Kessler three times to go with an assist. Macy Durkin, Lauren Mills, Ava Mone and Campbell Endries joined Stone in the two-goal column as Margaret Bliss, Laney Bort and Alexis Scaramuzzino each had one goal and one assist. Sadie Withers also had a goal.
Back home Thursday to face Class B contender Watertown, J-D found itself in a tense battle, only able in the final seconds to emerge with a 13-12 victory over the Cyclones.
Stone’s four goals and three assists led an attack where Durkin, Kessler and Sadie Withers each converted twice. Endries added a goal, as did Bort and Bliss. Only 13 saves by Watertown goalie Ava Virga kept it close as Alex Matucek paced the Cyclones with five goals and one assist.
Another close game followed on Saturday, against Auburn, and again J-D pulled it out by a single goal, edging the Maroons 14-13 as Stone got four goals and four assists and Durkin scored five times.
Helping them out, Bort got two goals, with single tallies going to Withers, Endries and Kessler as Bliss picked up an assist. Each of Lucy Keib’s 11 saves proved important.

Fayetteville-Manlius was unable to slow down reigning state Class A champion Baldwinsville Thursday in a 14-5 defeat to the Bees.
Aside from Emily Noel’s three-goal hat trick, only Grace Reyna and Kathryn McNanay found the net, Taylor Novack adding two assists. Four different B’ville players had multiple tallies, led by Brianna Peters’ four goals and one assist.
Then, in Saturday’s 17-6 loss to South Jefferson, F-M could not handle an explosive Spartans attack led by Savannah Hodges’ six goals as Madelyn Barney had four goals and Paisley Cook three goals.
Before it met CBA, ESM took a 10-3 defeat to Carthage last Monday, only getting goals from Godleski, Sophia Ferris and Rylyn Commisso as Macie Hancock, with two goals and two assists, led a balanced Comets attack.
In a 13-7 defeat to Cortland one night later, Godleski and Adrianna Byrd each scored twice, with Madison Wood, Jaelynn Aldrich and Morgan Purcell adding goals. Valerosa Gambitta and Olivia Magin each had four goals and one assist for the Purple Tigers.
ESM’s game with Oswego on Thursday was a third in four nights, and it ended like the other two, the Spartans on the wrong side of a 12-8 defeat to the Buccaneers.
Godleski scored three times, with Aldrich adding two goals. Byrd, Wood and Abigail Cain had one goal apiece, Arianna Reed getting eight saves. Aliana DiBlasi (five goals, three assists) and Kylie Fritton (four goals) carried Oswego’s attack.
