BALDWINSVILLE – As what typically happens when teams face each other more than once during the season, the Baldwinsville girls lacrosse team fully expected a challenge when West Genesee visited Pelcher-Arcaro Stadium last Tuesday night.
And that challenge arrived, but only in the second half, and only after the trio of Mia Pozzi, Brianna Peters and Carlie Desimone did enough to ensure a comfortable margin and an eventual 10-7 win over the Wildcats.
Having beaten WG 12-6 in Camillus on April 13, B’ville was sharp from the outset amid cold, wet conditions in the rematch, racing out to an 8-2 advantage by halftime.
Here was where Pozzi and Peters accumulated most of their three goals and one assist, fed by Desimone, who had four assists to go with her lone tally.
Other goals went to Sophia Muscolino, Peyton Dyl and Sierra Natoli, with Muscolino and Dyl adding assists and Ava Graham finishing with eight saves.
WG, who had lost three in a row entering this game, outscored the Bees in the second half. Olivia Blanding had three goals and an assist. Molly Doran scored twice, with Ashleigh Blanding and Mia Gialto getting the other goals as Allie Hanlon recorded 11 saves.
Going for its seventh in a row Saturday night against Section V’s Victor, B’ville could not pull it off, unable to hang on to a 7-4 halftime lead and falling 10-8 to the Blue Devils.
Victor dominated the second half after a quick start where Peters would land three goals, Muscolino scored twice and single goals went to Pozzi and Lea Otts. Dyl earned a pair of assists.
This long homestand finally ends Tuesday in a big showdown against Cicero-North Syracuse, kicking off a busy week where the Bees would also go to Fayetteville-Manlius and Westhill.
