CENTRAL NEW YORK – Going into May, the Jamesville-DeWitt girls lacrosse team remains the clear favorite in the area Class C ranks, and let one of its local rivals know about it.
When J-D took on East Syracuse Minoa last Tuesday afternoon, it had 11 different players put in a goal by game’s end on the way to defeating the Spartans 20-4.
Merris Kessler, Ava Mone and Lauren Mills each produced three-goal hat tricks, with Campbell Endres scoring twice and adding a pair of assists.
Caroline Stone had a goal and three assists. Alexis Scaramuzzino had one goal and two assists, with Brooke Bort and Sadie Withers both earning one goal and one assist. Anna Paduano had two of ESM’s four goals, the others going to Adrianna Byrd and Madison Wood.
From there, J-D went on to face Central Square Thursday and nearly blanked the Redhawks, prevailing 13-1 led by Kessler’s four goals and two assists, plus Stone’s two goals and four assists. Bort also found the net twice as Macy Durkin had a goal and three assists and Withers had a goal and two assists.
Then, against Liverpool on Saturday afternoon, J-D pulled out a 12-10 victory led largely by Durkin and Kessler, who finished with four goals apiece, and Stone, who had a goal and five assists.
All of this, plus two goals from Margaret Bliss and a goal from Bort, was enough to overcome a spirited Liverpool effort led by Gianna Carbone, who had a game-high five goals.
Christian Brothers Academy, who had narrow defeats to West Genesee and Watertown, was able to beat a quality opponent last Tuesday when it topped Southern Hills 16-10.
A combined team of Tully, LaFayette and Fabius-Pompey, the Storm were 7-1 going into the game, yet the Brothers were steady all game long, leading 7-4 by halftime and doubling that margin.
Leading a three-pronged attack, Maeve Mackenzie scored six times and Lilah Kirch had five goals and one assist, with Amelia Bonacci getting three goals and three assists. Single goals went to Mia Kirch and Medi Cecilia.
Then CBA lost, 9-7, to Westhill on Thursday, not quite able to overcome a 7-5 halftime deficit despite Mackenzie’s game-high five goals as, otherwise, only Bonacci and Lilah Kirch found the net.
Two days later, CBA did win over Jordan-Elbridge 15-4, Bonacci’s three goals and four assists leading the way as Mackenzie scored four times and Lilah Kirch got three goals, too. Mia Kirch had a goal and three assists.
Fayetteville-Manlius challenged reigning state Class A champion Baldwinsville last Tuesday night at Pelcher-Arcaro Stadium and lost, 16-7, to the Bees.
It was 9-3 by halftime, and the Hornets were unable to make up any ground. Grace Reyna had two goals and two assists, with Sarah Porter, Addison Keyes and Taylor Novack each getting one goal and one assist. Anne Leonard and Emily Noel had the other goals and Hannah Williamson recorded seven saves.
Two nights later, F-M fell to Cicero-North Syracuse 9-3, unable to get much past Northstars goalie Jilly Howell, who made eight saves. Noel, Novack and Porter earned the goals, Mackenzie Prentice pacing C-NS thanks to her four goals and one assist.
