CENTRAL NEW YORK – An April 22 defeat to long-time Section V powerhouse Victor did little to derail the Jamesville-DeWitt boys lacrosse team, as subsequent results showed.
The Red Rams took apart Oswego 24-0 last Tuesday night, netting 22 goals in the first half alone as Lucas Patchen and Graham Kesserling each had four goals and one assist.
Gannon Kessler scored three times and added three assists, with Sam Brazell adding two goals and two assists. Foster Kesserling and Antonio Murphy also had two-goal outings.
Challenged far more by Syracuse City on Thursday afternoon, J-D still shook off a slow start, led 6-1 by halftime and then went on a decisive 5-1 run through the third quarter on the way to prevailing 16-6.
Mario Streiff, with three goals and two assists, led the Rams as Brazell and Aidan Bates also had three-goal outings. Kesserling and Kessler each scored twice, single goals earned by Patchen, Jonah Buff and Ian Delpha.
East Syracuse Minoa was just 3-4 going into last week, but quickly climbed to the .500 mark against Central Square, nearly getting its own shutout as it beat the Redhawks 15-1.
Gavin Rinadli, with four goals and two assists, led the Spartans’ attack. Mike Santillo and Cayden Claflin each scored three times, with Noah Taylor and Evan deBerjeois each getting one goal and one assist. Cole Thomas, Dan Abreu and Vitor Azeredo also had goals.
But ESM absorbed an 11-10 defeat to Auburn on Thursday night, outscored 5-2 in the third quarter after a 5-5 first-half tie and not quite able to come back.
Claflin still managed four goals and two assists, with Welch scoring twice. The other goals went to deBerjeois, Sanitllo, Abreu and Henry Callahan as seven different Auburn players netted goals.
But ESM was able to beat Rome Free Academy 15-7 on Saturday afternoon, returning to the .500 mark (5-5) in the process.
Christian Brothers Academy routed Tully/Fabius-Pompey 16-1, sprinting to a 12-0 halftime edge as the Brothers got three-goal hat tricks from Andrew Kohlbrenner and Marty Fallon.
Jack Wichmann, with two goals and two assists, was part of a well-balanced attack. Joe Papa, Will Cannizzo and Jack Ludington also converted twice, with Ben Anderson adding a goal and two assists.
All of this changed on Thursday when CBA lost, 9-8, to Westhill in double overtime, a wild and exciting game where the Brothers were shut out in the second quarter and trailed 5-1 at the break.
Still down 7-4, CBA made it all the way back to tie it 8-8 and force OT, but lost in the second extra period, not helped by the fact that only Kohlbrener and Papa, with four goals apiece, converted. Matt Craybas finished with 13 saves.
