ONONDAGA COUNTY – Once more, the Baldwinsville boys tennis team set out, taking aim at Fayetteville-Manlius and the rest of the top sides within the Salt City Athletic Conference Metro division.
The Bees went to Liverpool in last Monday’s season opener, able to claim all of the doubles matches on the way to handling the Warriors 6-1.
It began with Ethon Haahr and Zach Pendergast earning a 6-0, 6-0 shutout of Raury Bienkowski and Greyson Valente as Connor Tutor and Leo Vann went a bit longer, but beat James Welch and Andrew Caimano 6-2, 6-4,
Nick Helbig and Andrew Jung, in first doubles, handled Ayden Presley and Aidan Hunter 6-0, 6-1, while in a 6-1, 6-0 decision Zach Treichler and Aidan Delaney topped John Ioannidis and Dan Haynes.
Up in singles, Mason Doan ran into Liverpool’s Justin Barrett and lost 6-1, 6-2, but Nathan Smith and Eric Ventura each recorded 6-0, 6-0 shutouts over, respectively, Mason Pinchin and Kasey Maher.
At West Genesee on Thursday afternoon, B’ville was even more dominant, blanking the Wildcats 7-0 behind a string of lopsided victories.
Doan’s 6-0, 6-0 romp over Joe Paoli in first singles set the tone, but Smith wasn’t far behind, handling Nate Ruston 6-1, 6-0 as Ventura picked up a 6-2, 6–0 win over Jacob Dalton.
In second doubles, Helbig and Jung blanked Josh Pierce and Nathan Smith 6-0, 6-0, and by those same scores Delaney, paired with Pendergast, topped Jack Neves and Dan Alvaro.
Haahr and Alex Blum were together for their own 6-0, 6-0 win over John Diem and John McCann, while Tutor and Treichler gave up just two games while zooming past Willard Young and Ty’San Scott 6-2, 6-0.
B’ville will offer up its challenge to F-M on Thursday afternoon, weather permitting, after a non-league match with East Syracuse Minoa earlier in the week.
