CENTRAL NEW YORK – When the East Syracuse Minoa boys bowling team met up with unefeated Auburn last Monday afternoon at Falcon Bowl, it promised some high scores.
And the Spartans delivered on them, several bowlers making outstanding contributions during a 5-2 victory over the Maroons that shot ESM to the top of the SCAC Empire division standings.
Zach Kassel led the way. Having shot 213 in his opening game, Kassel got 10 strikes in a 279 second game and was nearly as good in the third, adding a 264 for a career-best 756 series.
Mike Saunders was quite consistent, his games of 249, 246 and 230 part of a season-best 725 set as Luke Liedka’s 690 series had games of 237, 225 and 230.
Ryan Buffum had a 225 and 244 in his 650 set as Alex Locke’s 560 series included a 203 game. All of this overcame a 703 series from Auburn’s Ryan McConnell (high game of 264) and a 651 series from Eric Barski as Jack Sliwka (599 series), Dominic Capone (586 series) and Caleb Pildypchak (559 series) followed.

However, the boys match went 5-2 in Grimes’ favor, the Cobras getting a 509 series from Tom Koldzie that concluded with a 200 game as Bruno Kinsey’s 204 closed a 494 set.
Alex Kinne (458 series), Greg Docos (431 series) and Casey Mierek (415 series) all helped out as CBA was led by Tom Dearnaley’s 199 game and 527 series ahead of Zach Mulhern (493 series), Jake Mason (477 series) and Ryan Mulhern, who had a 469 set.
