CENTRAL NEW YORK – The West Genesee girls basketball team was just 2-7 going into its Dec. 30 game against East Syracuse Minoa, but fought past the Spartans 38-34 by going on a 12-5 second-quarter run to move in front and then staying there despite some late struggles.
Isabella Quinones again led the Wildcats, earning 11 points as Hannah Sparks got seven points. Alaina Dudzinski and Emilie Shoults had six points apiece.
Yet another close, low-scoring game against a Spartans side went against WG last Wednesday when it lost, 38-36, to New Hartford, who pulled it out with a basket right as time ran out.
Ava Brazier’s 20 points helped carry New Hartford to victory as no Wildcats player scored in double figures, Quinones getting nine points and Kelly Jones adding seven points.
Jordan-Elbridge was dominant in last Tuesday’s game against Solvay, the Eagles bashing the Bearcats 57-23 to move above the .500 mark to 5-4 overall.
Already up 16-4, J-E shut out Solvay in the second quarter, getting 15 unanswered points. Ava Hildebrant led the way, eventually accumulating 18 points, four rebounds and five steals.
Riley Crawford had 13 rebounds to go with her eight points as Brooke Chiarmonte had 10 points and Abbie Ahern eight points. Te’ahjae Johnson and Neonna Turk led the Bearcats with six points apiece, Johnson adding eight rebounds.
J-E stayed consistent on Thursday and, in an impressive performance against 6-2 Cato-Meridian, prevailed 57-35, the difference a second quarter where the Eagles outscored the Blue Devils 24-2.
Erin LaVancha finished with 14 points, while Ahern and Haley Root had 11 points apiece.
J-E then jumped out 18-1 on Canastota Saturday on the way to beating the Raiders 58-24, with 17 points from LaVancha, 13 points from Hildebrant and 11 points from Ahern.
